2018/19 Newsletter #3

President’s Update

I would like to extend an official welcome to all members for the start of the 2018/19 water polo season and in particular welcome all those members who are new to our club this year – it’s great to have you at our club.  I hope those of you that were on school holidays, or had time off work over this period, had a wonderful and safe break.  We have now reached the start line and hopefully you are all ready to jump in the pool to play some great water polo and have some serious fun.Your committee has been working very hard to get members registered and formed into teams for the start of the Junior and Senior State Leagues, this week.  This year we have nominated 9 Junior teams and 3 Senior teams.  You will find important information below about training and games, so please take the time to have a read and familiarise yourself with the requirements for both.

This week we will be holding another FlippaBall “come & try” session, before kicking off our FlippaBall season next week (please see below for further details).  I know I am excited, so I can only imagine how excited our youngest members are!

I wish everyone the best of luck with their games during the season and hope that you all have a great time. One last thought: If you train hard, you’ll not only be hard, you’ll be hard to beat. (Herschel Walker)

Adam Wheeler – President

Our 2018/19 season kicks off with our first FlippaSkills (training) session on Thursday 18th Oct, from 3:45pm to 5:00pm and our first FlippaBall (competition) games are on Saturday 20th Oct, between 11:15am to 12:30pm (exact times still to be determined based on numbers of participants).

If you are yet to register your child (click here for link to registration page), it is definitely not too late, but I would ask that you do this asap, so that we can start forming teams and working out the competition format. If your child has a friend(s) participating and they would like to play in the same team, then please send through these “friend requests” to me, so that I can take them into consideration when forming our teams.

We had a very successful come & try day on the last Thursday of term 3, with 42 kids in the pool having fun. Of these kids, there were 32 who were not previously members, which is a fantastic result. We also have another FlippaBall “come & try” session on Thursday 11th Oct (4:00pm to 5:00pm).  All  FlippaBall members are more than welcome to come down and if your child(ren) have any friends who would also like to come along then please let them know about it.  Once again, we will be holding a free sausage sizzle for all participants.

Adam Wheeler – President and acting FlippaBall Coordinator

U16 Boys National Club Championships

Congratulations to our U16 Boys team who competed in the National Club Championships, during the second week of the school holidays.  They had a great week by all accounts, with a number of victories and some very close losses. This resulted in them finishing 24th, after starting with a ranking of 27 and finishing ahead of three other WA teams.

The boys conducted themselves in the true spirit of our club and did both themselves and the club very proud.  I know that this event was a great experience for them and enabled them to develop their water polo skills to another level.  Well done boys!

Monique Sandford – Juniors Coordinator
