Newman makes a Splash at the Grand Final!

What a spectacular season Newman Splash has had. After a nail-biting semi-final against UWA City Beach Sisters, where we finally won during penalty shoot outs, we were into the Grand Final.

Game day arrived, a fantastic sunny Perth day with spectacular, Swan River views from Bicton Baths, we felt privileged to be there. With great enthusiasm and determination, but also some trepidation, we took to the water.

Triton were not going to beat us easily (if at all) we thought. Team tactics discussed and clear… DEFEND, DEFEND, DEFEND. From the water could be heard: “who’s on 7, who’s got Shelda”, the oppositions 2 key players were to be played out of the game. This strategy worked to a tea and at half time we were 2-2 draw.

After half time our strategy did not change. A couple of goals slipped through the net, 4-2 down. We dug deep and continued to fight for the opportunities.

Shots were made but unfortunately several missed or were saved by their skilful goalie. At the final whistle we were exhausted, we had given our all and lost 4-3. Still ecstatic, everything had been put on the line and we played as a team.

Proudly, we took our place on the edge of the pool to receive our silver medals. WELL DONE TEAM!
