President’s Update

It’s that time of year again to hit the water and get back into water polo!

We are kicking off our season with training for our Juniors, commencing this Saturday (and yes, the pool is heated, so put away the ice picks). The Seniors will follow 3 weeks later and then finally we will get our young FlippaBallers into the water.

I would like to extend a big welcome back to all our members and I hope that everyone has had a great break from the pool and are keen to jump back in for season 2018/19. You will find below, some important information about the upcoming season for each of our competitions (FlippaBall, Juniors & Seniors), along with details about fees and registrations.

The committee and I look forward to seeing you all down at the pool for a great Summer of water polo and most importantly, to have a great time.

Registration & Fees

Registration

Registrations are now open for the 2018/19 season.

This year Water Polo Australia has moved to a new membership and database provider, revolutionseSPORT and introduced a new online registration system called “MemberPool“. All members will be required to register through this new system for the 2018/19 season. In this first season of using MemberPool members will be required to fill in all of their details, however in future years, most of these details will be pre-populated based on your national identification number.

We ask that all members please register by 31/8/18 to allow time for team nominations for the respective competitions.

Please note that a merchant fee is charged by revolutionseSPORT for all registrations and this is shown on your receipt:

Pin Payments (preferred provider) – 2.0% + $1.60 AUD per transaction.
PayPal – 2.6% + $1.63 AUD per transaction.

Fees
This year we have had to increase fees, primarily as a result of increased costs associated with State and National body capitation fees and pool hire. Fees are set at a level that enables the club to breakeven, based on our estimates of membership numbers and associated costs. The fees for the 2018/19 season are as follows:

FlippaBall = $230
Juniors = $345
Seniors = $345
Seniors Training Only = $150

Competitions

FlippaBall

This year we are launching a rebranded and fresh approach to the delivery of our FlippaBall program. To do this, we are aligning our program to Water Polo Australia’s newly developed FlippaBall suite of programs. Water Polo Australia undertook a major review of FlippaBall in 2016/17 resulting in significant changes from branding, to delivery formats and consistent content. The principles developed out of this review are also the ones we believe in for our own program and these are that FlippaBall is:

Fun
Social
Inclusive
Safe

Supporting delivery of our program this year we will be our Head Coach, Jeremy Carbone, who will be providing greater structure and oversight of our training sessions, along with development and mentoring of the junior coaches that will be coaching our FlippaBall kids.

We are still working through the finer details of our program and will provide further information in the coming weeks. For now here are some dates to keep in your diaries:

Junior Coaches & Referees

We are seeking expressions of interestfrom our Juniors who have at least 2 years State League playing experience, to be FlippaBall coaches and referees this year. Please send an email to president@newmanwaterpolo.asn.au to register your interest.

Juniors

Season Launch
Our Juniors’ season launch is this Saturday (18th Aug) and we ask that all parents and Juniors players are at the pool for a 9:00am start. I urge all Juniors parents and players to attend as we will be presenting important information about the season ahead. Following the presentation, the players will jump in the pool and commence training.Pre-Season training runs for 5 weeks, before breaking for the Term 3 school holidays. After the holidays the Summer Season competition commences, with the first games scheduled for Sunday 7th and Monday 8th Oct . Please see below, for details about age groups and training times.

This year Water Polo WA has split the Junior State League competition over two days. U14s & U16s B-division teams will now be playing their games on a Sunday afternoon (between 3pm & 6pm) at Hale Pool, while the A-division teams will continue to play on a Monday night at HBF stadium.

Age Groups:

U14s –2005, 2006 & 2007 (by selection)
U16s –2003 & 2004
U18s –2001 & 2002

Pre-season training (5 weeks: 18 Aug – 20 Sep):

Sat 9:00am to 11:00am – all U14s & U16s
Thu 5:00pm to 7:00pm – all U14s & U16s

Season training (commences Tues 9 Oct):

Tue 7:00pm – 8:00pm – compulsory for Nationals & A-division players
Thu 5:00pm – 7:00pm – U14s (Boys & Girls)
6:00pm – 8:00pm – U16s (Boys & Girls)
Sat 8:00am – 10:00am – U14s (Boys & Girls)
9:00am – 11:00am – U16s (Boys & Girls)

Games – State League Competition (commences Sun 7 Oct/ Mon 8 Oct)

Sunday afternoon (Hale School) – all B-division teams
Monday evening (HBF Stadium) – all A-division teams
