Go Newman !

Presidents Update

Houston we have lift off!  We are now underway with all our competitions and hopefully everyone is having a great time.

The Junior teams now have 2 games under their belts and are getting a good taste of the level of competition within their respective divisions.  We have had some wins, we have had some losses and we have had a lot of fun.

The Flippaballers had a bit more of a spectacular launch to the season, with an almighty lightning storm overtaking proceedings last Friday night.  Unfortunately, we weren’t able to play any games due to the conditions, but this week is looking much better.  So, get out there and have a great time in the water this Friday night. Maybe next year we might just stick to Fireworks at the season opener and leave the light(ning) show out of it!

Our Senior teams also hit the competitive water this week, with their competition kicking off on Wednesdaynight.  I haven’t had a chance to hear how they went yet, but  I am guessing that because I haven’t heard that anyone required oxygen, things must have gone ok.

Well done to all players and keep up the great work in the pool, both at training and on game night.

Hale Pool Housekeeping
I would like to point out/remind all users of the Hale pool facilities, on our training days, of a few housekeeping rules:

  • Please do not park in the top car park near the pool entry, as this is reserved for the school’s use only and they are very strict on this.
  • We are not officially allowed to access the pool area until 5:30pm on Thursdays and 12:30pmon Saturdays, so please do not enter before this time unless a committee member has instructed that it is ok to do so.
  • Please enter the pool through the 3rd gate along the pool (which should be sign posted from this week) and not through the gate to the small swimming pool area.  This is to do with duty of care and OSH requirements for the school and their swimming programs being conducted in the small pool.
  • We have been asked not to consume any foods or drinks, other than water, within the pool area.
  • Please ensure that any children who are not at the pool to train are supervised at all times and are not running anywhere within the pool area.  In addition, only members who are training are allowed in the water, so please ensure no one else enters the pool.
It is important that we follow these rules as Hale School have been very generous in allowing us to utilise their facilities, whilst our own pool is under renovation. We do not want to jeopardise our arrangement with them.

Competitions

Flippaball
For those who are superstitious “Friday the 13th” certainly lived up to it’s reputation of being unlucky with lightning striking just as our Flippaballers donned their caps for the first game of the season.

A big thank you goes out to all the parents who patiently waited for a decision to be made and unfortunately it wasn’t the one we wanted to start the season off with.  Many of the Flippaballers took advantage of the waiting time and headed inside to use the pool and slide.

It was great to see many of you take advantage of the hospitality up on the balcony with a few burgers and drinks to end the day.  Thank you to our volunteers for the night.

We have 32 degree day on Friday so fingers crossed it will come without the lightning and we can enjoy a fantastic first game night of Flippaball.  We encourage you all to stay after and enjoy the burgers or just have a drink.  Remember we still have a few spots on the roster to fill so if you can spare an hour or two on the Friday night we encourage you to put your name down.

Newman Flippaball will be fielding two teams in both timeslots and we would love to welcome more Flippaballers to the club.  If you have any friends that are keen certainly encourage them to come along Thursday, or Friday night.

Flippaball training will now finish 15 mins later (5:30 to 6:30pm).

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Claire & Kerrie – Flippaball Co-ordinators

Juniors
Our Juniors put on amazing performances at both Hale and HBF Stadium for their first 2 games of the season. Well done to all players! There are always a few teething issues as we get started, in particular we were very short of players in some teams. Can you please ensure you give as much notice as possible if you cannot play as this will allow us to find extra players from other age groups. Let’s not let the team down!

We now have Managers on board and they will be sending out emails to the team to help keep everyone informed. Please remember to be at the pool 30 minutes before the game to get organised and warm up.
