Here’s whats happening at Newman Water Polo
Presidents Update
The end of the first half of the season is fast approaching and it has been great to see how far all of our teams have come, this season. Obviously with all the training there has been a noticeable improvement in fitness and skills across all teams and age groups. Well done to everyone on your commitment to training and your games and now you are seeing the results! Please check below for details on when your last training sessions and games are.
A big congratulations to our boys and girls that participated in the Year 7/8 Champion Schools Water Polo Competition last week. Both the boys and the girls teams finished 2nd overall, after finishing on top of their respective pool groups at the end of the round games. In the grand final, both teams came up against very strong opposition, but they did Newman (school and water polo) proud. Well done to all players!
We have had a good response so far, mainly from the girls, regarding the U14 National Club Championships. I encourage all players who are interested in travelling to this great event to get their parents to let our Nationals Coordinator, Tania Parnell (teamparnell@iinet.net.au), know of your interest. We need to start formalising our teams and plans as soon as possible, so that we can get underway with making all the necessary preparations and fundraising activities.
Lastly, on behalf of the Newman Water Polo Committee I would like to wish you all a safe, wonderful and merry Christmas!

Flippa News
We have 2 weeks of Friday games left before our Christmas / summer holiday break. Last Friday Night Flippaball games are on Friday 8th December. I know lots of schools have end of year activities planned in these last few weeks – so if you can’t make the game, please let us know so I can alter our team lists. Our Last Thursday skills session will be on Thursday 7th December.A BIG Thank you to all those parents and committee members that have helped us out for the BBQ Roster this Term. As you can see we feed a lot of hungry kids on a Friday night and your help is of great assistance, so we can still be on Pool Deck overseeing the games.
SO THANKYOU!!!!We are on our LAST BBQ Roster on Friday – 8th December and I only have one volunteer…so if you are available even for 30 minutes we would be very happy to see you on Friday arvo up on the Deck. About 5:15 we like to setup, salad prep, cutting buns etc and cook the BBQ with a possible 2nd shift (6:30-7:30pm) selling burgers/hotdogs/drinks and pack/ clean upClaire & Kerrie – Flippaball Co-ordinators

Juniors
Some news on some of our junior teams from the team managers and coaches:Tiger Sharks
The under 14 Tiger Sharks have so far had a season full of challenges as it is their first Monday night season combined with them being the youngest in the league. The boys have stayed focused and determined as they continue to improve every week.Waves
The girls are really enjoying their games and were disappointed last week when they had a bye. They have some wins and losses so far this season. Their swimming and passes are getting stronger and they are starting to learn the rules. Each week their attack of the ball in defence has become more determined. It is great to see their smiles at games and training each week. Well done Waves !
Fighting Fish
While we have struggled to find a consistency due to injury and helping out other teams, our Fighting Fish U14A team is showing remarkable improvement over these past few weeks, particularly from an athletic point of view. The boys are stronger in the pool and tire less during games from the hard work they have put in over the past 2 months. We hope to see this continue when our Newman Pool is open once again and we can add morning fitness sessions to our training. We are still to win a game, but each one shows improvement and greater knowledge of the game, and these boys are to be congratulated on their positive attitude against very tough opposition. This attitude will see them continue to improve in the sport and as players, and is in no small part due to the support from both the Newman Water Club and the parents of each of the boys.
Pearls
The under 16 Pearls have had an exciting last few games. The team has jumped to second place on the ladder suddenly almost taking out the top team. The Pearls have beaten all the teams they lost to the first time around and have shown signs of improvement and enjoyment every week. With their large number of substitutes and their excitement during the game it’s hard to get these girls to come off to have a rest.Orcas
The mighty Orcas have worked hard to establish themselves at the top of the Ladder. They are proving to be fourth quarter specialists and in the last three games have come from behind to win or draw in the final stages of the game.Super coach Oliver attributes the Orcas strength to their tight defence; “They don’t give their opposite an inch and apply constant pressure in defence” he said. Superb performances by Mitch Duffy in goals often keep the team in the game until the forwards focus their sights.
Overall the team is developing their strengths and combined with their strong work ethic and sense of “One Team” should continue to perform well and enjoy themselves.
Barbarians
The under 16A Barbarians have had a strong start to the season with an aggressive defence that is proving to be one of the best in the league. The girls are improving each week and are striving to be in the mix for finals.Jocelyn (girls) , Laura & Jo (boys) – Juniors Co-ordinators
